Team Up Missouri Program

Tailored Telephone Counseling and Mailings to Increase Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Among Rarely and Never Screened Missouri Women Intervention Program
Goals:

Purpose of intervention:
The chosen intervention is designed to address barriers to breast cancer screening through targeted mailings and tailored telephone counseling. Missouri plans to adapt this evidence-based program and incorporate cervical cancer screening promotion.

Aim of intervention program:
The aim is to reach over 10,000 women through mail and telephone contacts to promote breast and cervical cancer screening. The audience of interest is women ages 40-64 years who are rarely or never screened for cervical cancer with an emphasis on minority women. Team Up Missouri intends that at least fifty of these contacts will result in a scheduled cancer screening appointment.

Process of intervention program: Team Up Missouri will

  1. Provide tailored telephone counseling and targeted mailings to Boone and Cole counties,
  2. Provide targeted mailings to Cape Girardeau and Buchanan counties, and
  3. Compare results with two comparative counties who did not receive either arm of the intervention (Usual Care).

Expected Outcome:
Upon evaluation, Team Up Missouri anticipates this program will show that tailored telephone counseling and targeted mailings are effective in promoting breast and cervical cancer screening in Missouri.
